TORAY Scholarship Agreement Signing Ceremony 2019
10 December 2019, the Scholarship Agreement Signing Ceremony was held at the seminar room of USM Engineering Campus Library. Tan Kah Huat (Year 1) and Dheeban Rajendran (Year 1) from School of Chemical Engineering USM had obtained scholarships from TORAY Company Malaysia recently.
TORAY will sponsor them the scholarship with a total amount of RM36,000 throughout their 4 years of study. They will be bonded to the company for 4 years after they graduated from USM. TORAY company has a strong partnership with USM and it has been intensified over the last few years. In 2013, TORAY company donated RM 4 million to support USM in building the Toray-USM KTC dedicated to the knowledge transfer programmes.
This ceremony was attended by Mr. Teh Hock Soon (Managing Director of Toray Industries (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd. Sadullah (Deputy Vice Chancellor of USM), Prof. Dr. Nor Azazi Zakaria (Director of USM Engineering Campus) and Prof. Ir. Dr. Zainal Ahmad (Dean of School of Chemical Engineering USM).
In the ceremony, the students are asked to study hard and make themselves a better person throughout their university’s life to be a well-developed person upon graduating. One of the advices that the scholarship’s recipients might give to the next potential recipients is not giving up easily. The beginning is always the hardest. Do their best at every opportunity that they have. If opportunities do not come to you, then create it. Remember that there is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs. The applicants are required to strive for a good academic results and enrol in USM with related fields of study.
In the interview session, they are asked to be well-prepared. Tips shared by Tan Kah Huat and Deeban during the interview are: be prepared, polite and be confident throughout the interview session.
