Industry and Community Advisory Panel (ICAP) Annual Meeting
27th November 2021, School of Chemical Engineering USM hosted the School’s Industry and Community Advisory Panel (ICAP) Annual Meeting at Zenith Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was attended by five ICAP Panellists including Dato’ Nur Iskandar (recently retired as Project Director, Petronas), Datuk Azman Ismail (MD, PLUS Bhd), Mr Paul Ellis (MD, Schaefer Kalk Sdn Bhd), TPjB Ts Ahmad Izram Osman (Division Director, Fire and Rescue Malaysia), Mdm. Nor Suhaila Kamarudin Sohami (Facilities Manager, Zurich Insurance Bhd) and the School’s Executive Committee.
During the meeting, the ICAP Panels highlighted the need for the School to further strengthen research and teaching in embracing and solving sustainability issues and taps research funding from private sectors as the industry is also going into the same direction in. The ICAP Panels also discusses various issues ranging from issues on graduate employability and starting salary of fresh graduates, the need to shift traditional teaching practices to adapt to the new norm post Covid19, and to craft creative teaching delivery techniques that prepare graduates to real life working situations. The Panels also touch on various ways the School could further enhanced academia-industry network.
