PENANG, 11 November 2013 – Universiti Sains Malaysia has emerged as the overall champion for the National Chemical Engineering Symposium 2013 (NACES 2013) hosted by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Pulau Pinang.

NACES is an annual event for chemical engineering undergraduate students in Malaysia. NACES provides a platform for chemical engineering students to compete, share experiences and opinions on the issues relevant to the chemical engineering world such as environmental and sustainability issues. The theme for NACES 2013 was "Carbon Conundrum : Unraveling The Enigma". A total of 237 delegates from 15 higher educational institutions participated in this event.

Young researchers from the School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Meor Muhammad Hafiz Shah Buddin, 23 and Muhammad Razif Abdul Razak, 23 bagged two awards; Gold Medal and Diamond Award at the British Invention Show 2013 (BIS 2013). The innovative product, "M.O.S. On 9th October 2013, Ir Paul Phor Chi Wei, chairman of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Penang branch as well as Principal of Perunding PLA Sdn Bhd presented a talk on “Introduction to BEM and IEM” to all undergraduate students. The talk was presented at Lecture Hall 5, Engineering Campus, USM. This event is conjunction with Annual Grand Meeting 2013 organized by Chemical Engineering Student Society (CHESS). During the talk, Ir Paul gave an introduction of BEM/IEM as well as benefit of joining IEM as student member.
