School of Chemical Engineering Students Win Awards at NRIC 2013
Penang 22 June – Young researchers from the School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia bagged two awards at the Novel Research and Innovation Competition 2013 (NRIC 2013) last night. The researchers of Meor Muhammad Hafiz Shah Buddin, 23 and Muhammad Razif Abdul Razak, 23 were beaming with excitement and pride when their hard work and innovation were rewarded and recognized as beneficial to the society at large.
Visit from CMU and UTAR
School of Chemical Engineering (SCE) has received two formal visits from two institutions of higher learning in the month of July 2013. The first visit was on Friday, 5th of July 2013 by Prof Sara A. Majetich from Carnegie Mellon University. She delivered a short seminar titled “Self Assembly with Magnetic Nanoparticles”.
The second visit was a delegation led by Dr Yamuna Munusamy Head of Department of Petrochemical Engineering, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman on 9th of July 2013. The visit focused on knowledge sharing and quality benchmarking, especially in accreditation related matters, as practised by SCE.
Chem-E-Car Competition 2013
In an exciting race of the 8th National Chem-E-Car competition (April 09, 2013) organized by the Institution of Engineers of Malaysia (IEM), USM team - Cattle-Ace from School of Chemical Engineering has managed to secure 2nd place in the poster presentation category. All of the teams stepped up to the challenge this year and has set a very good record in the car competition.
School of Chemical Engineering Staff Win National/International Awards
On behalf of the School of Chemical Engineering, the Dean, Prof. Azlina Harun would like to express her heartiest congratulations to the following academic staff members that have won various international and national awards:
- Prof. Abdul Latif Ahmad for winning the 2012 TWAS Prize in Engineering Sciences for his contribution to sustainable environmental protection and the health care of developing countries via membrane-based technology.
- Prof. Abdul Rahman Mohamed for winning the Science & Technology Award from Malaysia Toray Science Foundation for his outstanding contribution in the field of science and technology in Malaysia.
- Assoc. Prof. Lee Keat Teong for winning the IFIB Young Scientist Award for his outstanding research contribution in the area of renewable energy.
- Prof. Abdul Latif Ahmad, Prof. Abdul Rahman Mohamed & Assoc. Prof. Lee Keat Teong for being among the list of 27 Top Research Scientists Malaysia recognized by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM).
